In this series, Sense of Place, I start to move into more organic forms and shapes, with a focus on contemplating my place in the Universe. I am interested in how emotions and information can be transmitted, through mark making and form. Having lived my whole life exploring my natural surroundings, from observing and sketching the smallest plant, to studying the shapes of rocks on the mountain top, I am highly influenced by the state of the environment. I am in awe everyday of the planet and the ability of natural systems to provide all the necessary fundamentals for life on earth. With our increasingly precarious relationship to the earth, my experiences in wild spaces are aiming to reinforce my sense of place on this planet. It is within this context that these series of paintings have been created.
